Femme Fatale // A set of erotic playing cards were designed for London Festival as part of an all female show entitled “Soft Worlds, Sharp Edges”
I created the cards over the course of a few weeks searching through pornographic reference material from the 1970s and 1980s, bringing into focus the show's themes of intimacy, tension and authorship.
I felt myself reflected in these women and the process of making the cards involved repeated frenzied sketches of the same faces, the same bodies until they became an extension of myself. I focused on the black and mixed race adult film stars of this era, where I eventually found my muse in the form of Desiree West whose work features heavily across the final imagery. Her enchanting and mesmerising qualities made her an icon of the era. The cards are a confession of love for these women and seek to abandon and distort the male gaze into something reclaimed, into something of our own.
Cards come complete with a bespoke tuck box.
